Leeroy returns to RickksRoom to start our 2017 concert series. His new album to be released in April 2017 Love Versus and, even though it is his 11th studio album, the singer-songwriter from southern Alberta seems to be coming into his own.

“There is a bit of a feeling of vindication for me in this record for some reason,” he said in a press release. “I had just come out of a pretty low point in my career and I was pretty close to throwing in the towel. Making this album and working with this crew has re-energized me to make it happen.”

Stagger recorded the album in his newly built home studio, completing work on it only a few days before starting to track it. Pete Thomas (longtime drummer for Elvis Costello and the Attractions) was the first person to record a note.

Leeroy was the first artist to open RickksRoom-Wentworth-Nord on May 12, 2012, we are super stoked to have him open the 2017 concert series leading us into the next chapter of great music amongst great friends.

« En quelque sorte, en faisant cet album, j’avais le sentiment que cela donnait un sens à ma vie. Ma carrière déclinait et j’étais prêt à lancer la serviette. Travailler avec ces gens m’a donné un second souffle pour le réaliser » a-t-il déclaré dans un communiqué de presse.

Stagger a terminé les travaux de son tout nouveau studio à son domicile à peine quelques jours avant de commencer l’enregistrement de cet album. Pete Thomas (batteur de longue date pour Elvis Costello and the Attractions) a été la première personne à y enregistrer une note.

Le 12 mai 2012 Leeroy était le premier artiste à fouler la scène de RickksRoom à Wentworth-Nord. Nous sommes vraiment très heureux qu’il débute la saison 2017 pour notre rendez-vous intime entre amis appréciant la musique live.

Dennis Ellsworth has written songs in an impressive variety of styles. The depth of his already strong sense of melody and craftsmanship is evident in each new effort. In 2014 Ellsworth
was named one of Canada’s top ten new artists by the judges of the CBC Searchlight Contest. He also performed at the Lincoln Centre in New York City as one of twelve finalists in the International New Song Contest.

The coming year will be full of great new plans and opportunities. Following the release of Romantic As It Gets, Ellsworth will tour in Canada twice, will re-visit the United Kingdom, and will make his career debut in continental Europe. There will be lots of co-writing around the world in the years to come. It’s a bright and beautiful road ahead.

Dennis is no stranger to RickksRoom, we are excited to welcome him back with the RickksRoom fanbase he has successfully grown.

World traveler, former First Nation community manager, mentored by Leonard Cohen, Neema brings a lot of living to the stories she sets to beguiling contemporary folk music. And she's already attracted plenty of big name attention: backing vocal support from Emmylou Harris; production help from Pierre Marchand and Daryl Johnson; opening slots for Elton John, Jeff Beck, Joe Cocker, Jesse Winchester, Lyle Lovett and Cyndi Lauper, and the aforementioned mentorship of a Canadian legend.

Her third studio album, Painting My Wall Gold was released March 4, 2016. It was recorded while Neema was pregnant with her son, and produced with Daryl Johnson (Daniel Lanois) and Mark Howard (Bob Dylan, The Wailin Jennys). It opens with Neema’s mettā song, inspired by Buddhist metta meditation, a practice of wishing love and kindness to those around you, which features a performance by Emmylou Harris.

In her brand new release Uneven Ground (April 2017), produced by Winnipeg’s Scott Nolan, Hanson explores the realm of giving sound advice through songwriting, and fighting back against the devil within us. Permeating the recording is a restrained intensity, elevated with a finger picked beat, beautiful piano accompaniments, dobro and wind instruments. . The title track “Uneven Ground” is a full-on blues assault, conjuring images a glamorous chanteuse stretched out in front of a baby grand in a smoky nightclub. “ Uneven Ground is an authentic expression of Hanson’s rustic style, brimming over with imagery and cleverly penned lyrics, and a crystal clear production. It steps proudly into the next generation of roots and blues music, while still respecting traditions.

Growing up in Ottawa, Canada, Hanson started playing guitar as a teenager, eventually working her way to her award-winning debut, Things I Miss in 2006. Two more albums quickly followed, Eleven Months (2008) and Once the Sun Goes Down (2010).

Jason Bajada is returning to RickksRoom with new material to be released in September.

Jason Bajada's song lyrics are all written in invisible ink and appear only to unicorn eyes. He lives in Montreal and his favourite colour is pink (although it used to be blue for many years). Inspired by The Smiths and the sound of cats purring, his acoustic song musings will pull onto your heart strings and pinball their way into your soul.

Caracol is a Montreal-based singer-songwriter. Her music, written in both english and french, is filled with raw emotion, in a style that includes pop-folk-indie-vintage rocksteady-50's soul influences.
